“There’s a new trio of roosters in town and they want to make some noise in Long Beach’s vibrant roots music scene. There won’t be a loud crow at dawn but a hoedown howl of a screaming fiddle and the boot-stomping strums of a guitar and banjo…

The record is a mix of high-energy original songs, ballads and harmonies connected by impressive musicianship and Solan’s deeply personal lyrics. ‘It definitely owes respect to that tradition of old-time music, but at the same time it’s lyrically and musically a little bit more current, a little bit more musically ambitious,’ Solan said.

The first tune on the release was penned by Solan when he was about 15. It’s called ‘Poor Boy,’ and starts with a fast-paced fiddle that sets the tone for the rest of the tune.‘It’s about the exuberance of life and opportunity knocking on your door and the excitement of getting out into the world and being carefree,’ Solan said. The album title, ‘I Do Not Give a Damn,’ was taken from a line in that song.

It’s followed by a ballad called ‘Mollye Lou,’ which Solan wrote years ago about his then 7-year-old sister and the hardships she had growing up. Rounding off the record is “Sobriety,” an upbeat tune about the cycle of addiction, and ‘All I Know,’ a philosophical look at ‘what I’ve come to understand or I think I understand about life,’ Solan said. ‘It’s very autobiographical,’ he said of the record. ‘At the same time I hope that other people can relate to my experiences.’”

Track Name: Poor Boy
Poor Boy
by Michael Solan

I feel just like a genius
I think therefore I am
I'm just a poor boy
Pretty mama take my hand

I feel a lot like jesus
This place just like heaven
I'm just a poor boy
I do not give a damn

Line up all the bad men
Put us all to death
And when the sinners have all gone away
I wonder is there anybody left?
Track Name: Mollye Lou
Mollye Lou
by Michael Solan

This little sister's just a dream
She twists up curls just as long as i've seen
Nobody knows where her mother has been
Mollye Oh, no don't you cry
Don't let the lonely let you wonder why
Never seen eyes look so much like the sky blue
Please don't you cry, please don't you cry like you do

Sweet pea, baby, angel is you
The whole wide world is just in love with you
So don't you cry like you do, mollye lou
Please don't you cry, please don't you cry like you do

If you're alone, just you hold your breath
I'll be home before you're blue to death
So don't you ever be blue, mollye lou
Please don't you cry, no don't you cry like you do
Track Name: Sobriety
by Michael Solan

Sobriety brings on many changes
Not the least among them are the dreams that I’ve been waiting on,
The songs that I’ve been praying to be sung
Since many lives ago, they’re known for folding on their own
A homely duckling in a pond, an origami swan becomes

On and on, goin’ on, off and on we go on, on and on and off we go

Conformity is setting in so suddenly
All I ever wanted was to be stubborn and ugly
What has become of me, what have you motherfuckers done to me
Why are we the ones who are suffering
They are the ones who really are doing the suffering
May they suffer on

And on, goin’ on, off and on we go on, on and on and off we go

I can’t wait to go back out into the world
With a forty and a philly and a pretty little girl
Something I’ll sorely regret and yet a subject for a song better than this one
All my loneliness and of all my desperation
Spitting image of a snake chasing his tail
In this manner, I will never cease to fail in pleasing me
Some far off beauty teases me, teaches me nothing of meaning
Ever could or ever would come so easily, nothing good comes easy
Track Name: All I Know
All I Know
by Michael Solan

All my life I have been winding toward the never-end
And I find yet again, it goes on, so blows the wind
In my mind all these lines turn to convoluted lies
And my friends, where does the time go?

All I know
Hope it’s not for nothing, all for nothing, all for none
All for show, I for sure won’t take nothing with me when I’m gone, babe
You can go with me into the unknown

In my soul, in my soul, have I ever had one
Beg to ask the question, if I have to ask, would I ever know?
So it goes, so they say, so they say but who is listening?
Who is listening? Say it again, so blows the wind

All my life I have been dying to describe to you
A few things you might find confusing, lies, wisdom, dumb excuses
Truth is, when we really get down to it, our love is like our music
It’s here, and then it is gone

All I know, all I’ve known
It’s all wrong, it’s alright, when I’m gone you’re singin’ my song
It’s been fun, it’s been real, it’s been cool, but it hasn't been real cool
Everything, and everyone that I know, but do I really know them
Or has this all been for nothing?

All I know, it’s not all for nothing
If you love something, hold on
